WWDC 2012 and My iPod Nano

I have been always excited about the Apple WWDC event since the introduction of the original iPhone back in 2007.

I held back my purchase of the iPod Nano 6th gen for this event.  I am currently using the Nike Plus SportsBand for my jogging sessions and have been eyeing the 6th gen iPod Nano which supports Nike Plus without the need for a separate transponder to be inserted underneath my running shoe insole.

Since the iPod Nano is primarily a music device, I am expected more features to it than the curreny sets, particularly Bluetooth A2DP support.

So, I really hope to see a refreshed version of the iPod Nano with Bluetooth support at this WWDC 2012.

The chances are low though because Apple usually come out with new iPod in their "Music Event" to be held sometime in September.

I Like Britain's Got Talent

There are a lot of "talent shows" in recent years, brought to popularity by "The American Idol", if I'm not wrong.

One particular one that I like a lot is Britain's Got Talent.
I, like Simon, like to see contestants who are humble, but come with great talent.

Of course, the success of such shows owes to the judges as well, which is somewhat packaged as part of the entertainment.

The latest edition of Britain's Got Talent just got ended.

Here are the two acts that I like the most, for their humbleness and talent.

1) Only Boys Aloud



2) Charlotte and Jonathan



Neither win the competition however.
They came in 3rd and 2nd respectively.

Can't wait for the next edition of Britain's Got Talent!

I Love Jogging .. And Nike+

I love jogging for a few reasons:
1) to shed some weight off my marginally-obese body
2) to have the relaxation of mind it gives me while on the run
3) to keep me healthy

I was introduced to a running gadget by my colleague a year plus ago and am still using it regularly today.
It's the Nike+ Sportsband.

My running data such as distance run, calories burned and time per km rate etc are uploaded to my online account at Nikeplus.com.

I must say it's a great concept that really inspires me to run more. And in reality, I do run more than what I used to run after I retired from my National Service, AKA "went MR".

This Sportsband, however requires a transponder to be inserted in the hole meant for it in a Nike+ running shoe.

However, there comes the new version of iPod Nano by Apple. With the 6th generation iPod Nano, I can track my running data the same way as I'm doing on my Sportsband. The main difference between them is that the iPod Nano does not requires an additional transponder to work. So it's just "wear it and run"!

Yes, that's the gadget I will be getting next and real soon.

The only worry is its accuracy. The Nike+ Sportsband that I'm using now is highly accurate.

So, let's keep healthy!

Things That Go Against Inflation

Inflation is a constant thing.
Petrol goes up.
Housing price goes up.
Groceries expenses go up...

However, despite the constant inflation, certain things in life remain cheap.

I've just got a nice wall clock for $2 at a "2-dollar shop"!
Now, that is dirt cheap!

The shop sells many daily life's essentials at a low $2. I do not know what's their profit margin like, but I'm sure happy with the purchase.

Android Button Layout Inconsistency

Android handset manufacturers just can't standardise the buttons layout. Even for the same company. Now the button layout for the HTC One X differs completely from its Beats audio branded predecessor, HTC Sensation XE!
Come on, Google needs to standardise things to improve user experience Apple is capturing market share back in the US!
Can't wait for iPhone 6!

A Technology Irony

It's amazing how technology is going forward. Well, unless you're talking about the Galaxy Note.

Some years back, every vendor was trying reduce the size of phone such that the smaller it is, the more expensive it will be.
And a few years back, we were so glad we were able to get rid of the infamous stylus as an input device to a mobile device.

Now the reverse is seen in Galaxy Note.
What irony!

There Will Not Be an iPhone 5!

Well, I'm not seeing any iPhone 5 coming at all in the future!

Let's go through the naming convention for all the previous iPhone models.

1st gen: iPhone
- yup. Appropriately named

2nd gen: iPhone 3G
- Apple went for the mobile network protocol (i.e. 3G network) for this model. And so, there goes iPhone 2 into the bin.

3rd gen: iPhone 3GS
- it's a minor bump-up in terms of specs with no external visual differences. Yes, appropriately named here as well.

4th gen: iPhone 4
- Apple made a naming convention change and give a "model generation" number to it as the 4G network is still not supported. Logical.

5th gen: iPhone 4S
- Well, this should have the iPhone 5 that many were anticipating. But, just like the iPhone 3GS, Apple classified this as a bump-up not in the external visual department and appended an "S" to it.

Now we come to the next unreleased iPhone model, the 6th gen.

What comes next?
a) iPhone 5
b) iPhone 4G
c) iPhone 6

As mentioned in my title, I'm not betting on (a). As the next model is not the 5th model but the 6th.

If the next model supports 4G LTE, answer (b) looks likely.

But personally, I'm guessing it to be (c), iPhone 6!
